e-Print Frequently Asked Questions

About e-Print

How does the ITCourseware e-Print solution work?

Go to ITCourseware e-Print Solution for detailed information on our e-Print delivery model.

What platforms does your e-Print solution support?

The PDF OwnerGuard software supports Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Seven. You must have administrator privileges to install the PDF OwnerGuard client and to open and print protected PDF documents.

How long does it take from the time I submit my order until I can access and print the documents?

The first order takes longer to process because it is necessary for you to download, install, and register your PDF OwnerGuard client with us so that we can issue licenses to that client. After the PDF client is installed and registered it takes only a matter of minutes for us to issue the license and put the file in your download directory.

Our commitment to process an order is 2 hours from the time of order receipt for all orders received between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM U.S. Mountain Time on regular business days (M-F except holidays). All orders received after 3:00 PM or on non-regular business days will be processed the next business day.

Support Questions

Help! Windows 7/Vista is telling me "Your license is Time-Limited, so you must have admin rights." What do I do?

Your e-Print PDF must be opened as an Administrator:

  1. Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | *Right Click* on Command Prompt and choose 'Run as administrator'.
  2. Type the full path + name of the encrypted pdf to launch Adobe Reader.
OR
  1. Login using the Windows Administrator account (rather than an account that is simply a member of the Administrator group)
    • If you don't have an Administrator account, you can enable it using the steps that can be found here
  2. Open the PDF in Adobe Reader

Help! I'm using Adobe X and it is telling me "Adobe Reader has stopped working." What do I do?

Adobe X has a new feature called 'Enable Protected Mode at Startup' that is conflicting with PDF Owner Guard. You just disable this feature in order to access your e-Print PDF:

  1. Uninstall PDF Owner Guard
  2. Restart Adobe Reader (you should no longer see the error message)
    1. Edit -> Preferences -> General
    2. Uncheck 'Enable Protected Mode at startup'
    3. Click OK
    4. Exit Reader
  3. Reinstall PDF Owner Guard

Help! I'm getting the error message: "Adobe could not open 'filename.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." What do I do?

This is the error message you get when your license has expired or if it was not installed. Please ensure that the license key sent to you by ITCourseware has been added to the PDF OwnerGuard client and that it is current.

My computer had some work done on it and now I can't print.

It is possible that something used by the PDF License Manager to create your computer ID has changed. If that is true, then any licenses issued prior to having the work performed are no longer valid. Contact our customer service representative at 303-302-5280 or 1-800-292-2652 to compare your current computer ID to what we have on file and to discuss your license status.

License Questions

Does my e-Print license expire?

Yes, the e-Print licenses expire 30 days after issuance. All printing must be completed prior to the expiration of the license period.

Can I transfer my license to another computer?

No. The e-Print licenses are issued using the Computer ID which is unique to that computer. It is important to consider which computer will be used as your printing station prior to completing the licensing process.

Can I license a laptop computer which would allow me to print in multiple locations?

Yes.

If I buy 10 licenses and print only 9 books, can I just wait until I run another class and then print the 10th book?

The e-Print licenses expire 30 days after issuance. All printing must be completed prior to the expiration of the license period.

My license expired, but I need to print one more copy of the courseware I ordered. What do I do?

If you need to print a document for which a license is expired, you do not need to download the encrypted PDF again. Just submit an order for the desired number of copies you need through our website and we will email you a new license. Register the new license to your PDF OwnerGuard. Once the license is accepted, you may open and print the file that was previously downloaded.

Printing Questions

How many pages can I print?

The e-Print license is issued to allow printing of a certain number of pages which is directly related to the number of books you ordered. If you order 10 copies of a 100-page book then the license that we issue will allow you to print 1000 pages plus a 3% print failure allowance for a total of 1030 pages.

You may use the total print allowance to print 10 copies of the entire book or 1030 copies of a single page, or any combination thereof. Once the pages printed equals the number of pages specified in the license you will not be able to print any more pages without purchasing a new license.

Can I use an outside printing company to print your e-Print products?

Maybe. Your designated printing company will need to download and install the PDF OwnerGuard License Manager client on their computer and follow the steps as outlined above.

Can I print out one book and then make copies using a copy machine?

No. Making copies of our courseware documents is a violation of international copyright law and a violation of the e-Print license agreement. Every courseware book must be an original printed document. Violations will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and violators will be restricted from further e-Print purchases.

Return Questions

If I don't print out all the copies my license permits can I return the unused copies for credit?

No. Similar to breaking the seal on a software package, once the license has been issued and access to the document has been granted, the product may not be returned.

Discount Questions

Do I get a discount for printing my own books?

No, but e-Print courseware orders will not be charged shipping costs. Customers who have established volume discounts will be able to apply those discounts to their e-Print orders.

Customization Questions

Can I put my own covers on these books?

Yes. Our document files are created to print double-sided with our standard covers. You may substitute your own covers if desired, but take note of the left-right page organization to preserve the double-sided printing. If you begin printing on page 3 and print everything through the last page then you can insert your own front cover. You may also opt not to print our back cover. To remove the back cover and preserve the double-sided printing, omit the last two pages from your print command. Be aware that our e-Print license prohibits removing the copyright page from the front of our books.

Alternatively, you may send us PDF versions of your covers and we will incorporate them into the book allowing printers with the capability to print and bind your books in one operation. There is a 1-time charge of $200 per book for this service.

Can I print chapters of different books to create my own custom books?

Our current licensing model requires that you purchase a print license for each book for every student regardless of how many pages you actually use. With this model self-customization is cost prohibitive. We can build a custom book for you that is re-paginated with a new table of contents allowing you to present your students with a professionally finished book and reduce your cost by reducing your license purchase to just the finished document.

You will be charged a Customization fee plus the license cost of the finished book. The customization fee is a 1-time charge per custom book based on the amount of effort to create it, typically, $200 to $500. There will be no customization charges for future orders for the same book.

The price of the e-Print license for the completed book is a function of the content source and course length. Email us at: e-print@itcourseware.com, or call 1-303-302-5280 or 1-800-292-2652 to speak to one of our customer service representatives about customization fees and completed book price.

I already have a custom hard copy book, will I have to pay a customization fee for e-Print delivery?

No. If we have already created a custom book then there is no further development work to be performed. However, not all custom books are eligible for e-Print at this time. Only those books that were created from the titles listed in the e-Print directory are eligible for e-Print. Please email the title and product code of the custom book to: e-print@itcourseware.com or call 1-303-302-5280 or 1-800-292-2652. We will evaluate the e-Print eligibility.
